Ward One Recount

Ward 1 is heading to a recount.  Rob Duvall won by 14 votes over incumbent Sharon Barkley, entitling Barkley to ask for a recount.  Barkley according to Inside Halton has a petition signed by six councillors to be presented to an emergency council meeting this Monday November 10, 2014.  Under the municipal elections act Barkley is allowed to ask for one.

If they decide in favour of a re-count, the clerk has 15 days in which to have it.  20 votes separated Duvall and third place candidate Danielle Masanto, with Barkley 6 ahead of Masanto putting the outcome of a recount in some doubt.  One thing is certain though: democracy is a messy business.  For more on the Municipal elections act visit this link.  Section 57 deals with recounts.
