A diverse ward combining some of the oldest parts of Milton with some of the newest.
Boundaries: North: Five Sideroad, South: Derry Road, East: James Snow Parkway, West: Tremaine Road
Main Roads: Derry, Ontario St, Bronte Rd., Main St.
Councillor: Greg Nelson
Candidates as of March 24, 2014: Greg Nelson, Jennifer Smith, and Ian Thompson. For an updated list of names, and contact information see candidate round up posts.
Issues: Milton Heights– the redevelopment of this area has been a controversial long-term project and is currently before the Ontario Municipal Board for hearings, and a final decision.
Waste Transfer Station: On the radar for the decision-making processes behind it. Planning permission for this was initially denied by both the planning and admin committee, and council. They reversed that decision at an in-camera council meeting, permitted under the Municipal Act. This could affect other races too.
Downtown Development: A review of the Civic precinct area (South side of Main St, directly around Town Hall) is under way. How do you want your downtown to look? What would you do to bring people downtown? Good questions to ask while considering your vote.
Downtown Development 2: A condominium development has been proposed for Mill Street between Martin, and James (with an entrance off Main St). Only in the planning stages, it has caused controversy among business owners who agree with the idea of a development while questioning if this is the right type. Much of downtown Milton is on a flood plain, and this could end up effecting what kind of building you could put there.
